About Jim
Jim moved to Oregon in 1980 to attend the University of Oregon. He’s had Oregon roots since then. During the 1980’s, Jim worked for Congressman Jim Weaver in Eugene, and for Congressman Peter DeFazio in Washington, D.C. When Jim moved back to Oregon in 1992, he worked for the Oregon Natural Resources Council, now known as Oregon Wild. After ONRC, Jim moved to the Northwest Power Planning Council as public affairs manager.

Beginning in 2000, Jim worked with virtually every City of Portland bureau to help protect and restore salmon and local watersheds.  Today, Jim is Portland City Commissioner Erik Sten's chief of staff, helping Erik build better schools, more affordable housing, and a greener and more just city.

Jim's Family
Jim’s children attend the Sunnyside Environmental School together in SE Portland. Because they have kids in public school, Jim and his wife Anna know the importance of vibrant schools and communities of parents and non-profit groups that provide care and instruction that helps ready our children to be active citizens of a great city.

Jim's Activities

Today, in his spare time, Jim serves as Multnomah County’s appointee to the Columbia River Gorge Commission, where he consistently helps to protect the scenic and natural resources of the National Scenic Area. His experience evaluating and voting on complex and contentious land use matters will serve him well on the City Council.  Jim cycles, plays guitar and enjoys cooking for friends and family.
